The Riggs family and valued staff have been a part of the business community in Salem, Oregon for more than 60 years, for three generations. It all started in 1954 when Earl H. Riggs pioneered Capital Business Equipment on High Street SE, next to the Elsinore Theatre. Selling state of the art typewriters and office furniture businesses in the Salem area, Earl had fantastic success. The business had continued growth for thirty years, was purchased by Earl’s son Dave Riggs in 1972.

Under Dave’s vision, the business evolved to become The Desk Dealer. The well-known caricature of Dave with a sharp pencil over his left ear and leaning on a desk, adorned the signage and delivery trucks. Dave’s philosophy was direct and successful, he keep a pot of coffee brewing and closed every sale with a firm handshake.

In 1995, Dave’s son, Greg Riggs became the third generation CEO of the Salem business. Together with his wife Cheryl, an interior designer they expanded the venture into one that offers products from a selection of over 100 manufacturers.

In 2013, the business transitioned into Total Office Interiors and relocated to the heart of downtown Salem. The firm creatively consults clients on a wide variety of business, healthcare and home furnishings. Total Office Interiors has come a long way from the typewriter days, however a collection are displayed in the design library, a reminder of how our family run business has endured & evolved into what it is today.
